In early 2016, the team at Convert rolled out our newly developed Conscious Business Mission with values and practices that influence decisions and affect whom they work with and how we do business. As the most affordable enterprise conversion, e-commerce optimization and a/b testing solutions on the market today, Convert stands out in the crowded SaaS marketplace with an actionable mission statement that aims to better their workplace, local communities and the environment while adding value and transparency to their stakeholders and clients.

Conscious Businesses are ones that recognize that the sum is greater than the parts and that a successful company is one with a triple bottom line that endeavors to add value to people, planet, and profit.

We provide sustainability and trust in all what we do, from increasing value for our stakeholders and clients, to expanded opportunities for development and career growth for our employees and improving the local and global environment by becoming carbon neutral

Dennis van der Heijden, CEO of Convert
Conscious Business Practices

It is not just a move designed to improve the world in general; conscious business strategies are a sure fire way to build brand loyalty and increase profit.  Research demonstrates that brands that are conscious capitalists succeed. With investment returns of 1025% over the past 10 years, compared to only 122% for the S&P 500 and 316% for the companies profiled in the bestselling book “Good to Great”—companies selected for their ability to deliver superior returns to investors, these brands far outperform non-conscious businesses. 1

The most conscious companies give more, and they get more in return. The inescapable conclusion: it pays to care, widely and deeply.

Tony Schwartz, Founder CEO, The Energy Project

Moving up and away from the typical start-up with cheap, outsourced labor to one that empowers its team to make the company, its clients, and the world a better place motivated Convert to move forward with the Conscious Business Mission.

“I am proud to now work with the best team I can imagine and giving them all the tools, freedom and financial compensation that comes with a leading SaaS company,” CEO Dennis van der Heijden explains. “This changes the way we do business, what clients we want to work with and evolves this business into one that stands for human rights and ethics and isn’t afraid to express this publicly. It is amazing to cooperate with a diverse team that brings a wealth of positive experience to the world.”

Understanding that the best way to do business nowadays is by being responsible to the community and the environment, the primary intention is to become a 100x carbon positive company and ultimately contribute to a cleaner world. The first action was moving to Akamai CDN’s to support a more energy transparent Amazon (AWS) and signing the Greenpeace letter to Amazon’s board. Also, in choosing a carbon neutral hosting environment Convert also improves clients’ experience and guarantees the privacy of their information and data.

Conscious Business Practices embraced by Convert

While Convert prides itself on being an international company made of a diverse group of diverse group of remote workers based around the world, head office is located in California, with many team members located in Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, the centre of Maya culture. Living closely with Maya culture and seeing the day to day lives of many of these marginalized people whose ancient culture has such deep respect for the planet, Convert set out to create actionable results within local communities.

Convert  supports HELPS International by donating to their ONIL Stove Program. The ONIL stove is donated to rural Mayan families and replaces the traditional open fire pits and in doing this, reduces the risk of injury, provides proper ventilation, and reduces wood consumption by 70%, giving those with ONIL stoves two days a week in time saved gathering wood.

It is also important to note that one stove reduces the amount of carbon released into the air at a rate of 2.893 tons of CO2e a year (equivalent to 2,500 individual flight seats from Cancun to Toronto and back).

I am proud to now work with the best team I can imagine and giving them all the tools, freedom and financial compensation that comes with a leading SaaS company,

CEO Dennis van der Heijden.

Convert’s team centered employee program strives to encourage personal growth and provides team performance based benefits.

We aspire to be an awesome place to work for everyone! It’s no secret that gender inequality is still a part of our society, and as such we are taking an active role in reducing that gap in the fields of technology and marketing.

We actively aim for a 1:1 hiring ratio by applying and implementing measures to ensure full equality in practice, also known as Positive Action. We strive to achieve gender equality in Convert.com’s team by not only hiring women but by hiring amazing team members that are women.

More than just gender neutrality, unlimited (unpaid) vacation days or a flexible post-parental leave schedule, team members at Convert enjoy a workplace that respects their contributions and encourages employees to take an active role in the development of the company.

building a better world

Taking employee empowerment one step further, Convert has enabled its team members with the choice to serve or not clients who violate their personal beliefs and that do not align with the stated values of the Conscious Business mission. In particular, we do not accept clients who sell weapons or engage in animal cruelty or violate animal welfare.

In researching the effects and benefits of transitioning to a conscious business model and in communicating Converts new ideology to partners and peers, it was quickly apparent that we are moving in the right direction, and that we are not the only ones that want to create a positive impact. Some of the founders of the conscious business model include Anita Roddick of The Body Shop and Whole Foods cofounder, John Mackey.

These companies and thousands more worldwide are choosing to speak up for the rights of employees, vendors, and the environment, and they are being rewarded for doing so, both economically and ethically.

All the team would be happy to hear back from you, feel free to share your thoughts about Convert Conscious Business mission.
